An In-Depth Look at How an Image is Taken Into The Eye and Then the Brain

The first thing that happens when we look at something, is reflected light enters through the cornea. Next it passes through the aqueous humor which is a clear fluid filling space in front of the eyeball and between the lens and cornea. It’s purpose is to nourish the cornea by supplying nutrition such as amino acids and glucose. The same light then passes through the lens which changes shape to allow the light rays to be focused so they will pass through. Next comes the vitreous humor which is a tissue filling the eyeball behind the lens. The purpose is to allow light to get in to the retina which creates vision, as it is made up of oxygen and nutrients. The light travels to the very back of the eye and passes through the photoreceptors of the retina. These photoreceptors include the cones which are meant for bright light and color and the rods meant for dim light and peripheral vision. The cells in the Retina then convert the light into electric impulses to the Optic Nerve.

There are 2 sides of our vision temporal and nasal sides, and the optic nerves are on both temporal sides. The electric impulses from the right side go to the left side of the optic nerve and the impulses from the left side go to the right side. The axons on the left nasal side cross with axons on the right to form the optic chasm. The axons enter the brain and the image is developed through the brain recognizing images from the past through electrical impulses.
